Philosophy & Vision
The "Golden Bird" Legacy
Historically, India was affectionately known as Sone Ki Chidiya—the Golden Bird—a land celebrated for its vast artistic depth, cultural abundance, and soaring creative power. By designating our festival as the Golden Bird Open, we pay direct homage to this legacy. We view the domestic Indian West Coast Swing community as an incredibly vibrant asset, primed and ready to break out onto the international circuit.
Our Festival Philosophy
As a completely new event on the global map, we simply try harder. Previously celebrated as the India West Coast Swing Festival, this Second Season marks an intentional re-branding and a structural upgrade. We execute our curriculum through three fundamental pillars:
Rigorous Foundations: Moving away from superficial patterns, we prioritize comprehensive technical structure, safe body mechanics, and precise partnership communication.
Inclusivity & Growth: We maintain a completely safe, ego-free learning environment where absolute beginners work interactively with established national artists.
The Road to WSDC Recognition: We are working relentlessly to become an officially recognized World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) competition within a few years. This strategic step ensures Indian dancers can natively accumulate global points right here on home soil.

Golden Bird Open WCS Jack & Jill Rules
1. Format & Judging
- The 3 T's: Judged on Timing, Technique, and Teamwork (WSDC-aligned).
- Format: Randomly paired partners, music chosen by the DJ. Prelims are judged individually; Finals are judged as a couple.
- Roles: Gender-neutral. Must stick to your chosen role (Leader or Follower) throughout the division.
2. Divisions (Experience-Based)
Newcomer
Less than 1 year of WCS experience. No previous finals appearances or WSDC points.
Intermediate
Roughly 2 to 4+ years of WCS experience. For regular Novice finalists or current Intermediate competitors. No pros/advanced dancers.
3. Dance Rules
- Content: Minimum 80% recognizable West Coast Swing (must keep linear structure and elasticity).
- No Choreography: Must be purely lead-and-follow.
- Safety: Lifts and aerials are strictly prohibited. One foot must remain on the floor during any drops or slides.
- Note: Intermediate cash prizes are scaled based on division registration totals. Trophies are awarded strictly to the top 3 placing couples in each division.

5. Competitor Responsibilities
- Bibs: Must be worn and clearly visible during all heats.
- Punctuality: Be in the staging area when called or face automatic disqualification.
- Dress Code: Smart-casual social dance attire. No floor-damaging shoes.

Golden Bird Open Social Jive Jack & Jill Rules
1. Competition Format
A national-level Jack & Jill competition scored on authentic Social Jive (clean 4-count rhythm, connection, and improvisation; no ballroom triple-steps). Competitors enter individually as Leaders/Followers and are randomly paired with partners and music tracks in every round.
2. Divisional Eligibility & Rules
Beginner (Less than 6 Mos)
Focuses on basic 4-count timing, simple turns, and passes. Strictly no dips, drops, ducks, or intricate hand-changes. Slow/medium tempo tracks.
Intermediate (Up to 12 Mos)
Focuses on smooth transitions and clear lead-follow communication. Max 1 controlled dip/duck per song. No advanced drops or body rolls. Medium/fast tracks.
Advanced (13 Mos & Over)
Focuses on musical improvisation, speed agility, and high-energy performance. Safe dips, drops, and ducks are fully allowed. Aerials are strictly prohibited. Fast tracks.

Judge 3: Vibe & PerformanceEvaluates showmanship, floorcraft, crowd engagement, and safe execution of drops/dips.
